What can I do to ease the mind for yoga/meditation? I'm a teenager and I find it hard to concentrate and clear my mind for yoga and meditation, whenever it is quiet my favorite music starts playing in my head. Any pointers? bahbdorje replied: "Enjoy the music. Do the asanas and be glad you don't need headphones to enjoy music.
There is no reason to be trying to erase internal noises. You will always have thoughts to watch and ignore.
The idea of mantras is to keep the mind focused. You can simply focus on the posture. Feel your body. Just feel your body. Pay attention to how your muscles and joints feel.
Or you can find mantra you like to repeat (japa) over and over as you practice."
Jennifer C replied: "I find it best to do yoga to a DVD. DVDs usually have their own background music. You can use this music and the sound of the teacher's voice to help you stay focused.
Also, focus on the breath. Attention to the breath keeps your mind in a one-pointed focus and prevents you from being distracted from other thoughts. If you have a distracting thought during yoga, silently say, "Thinking mind," to yourself. Observe the thoughts, and let them go. Don't try to control them." Is there a good source for mens yoga/meditation clothing? Almost everything I can find is designed for women. I would like to find a good source for mens yoga and meditation clothing. Can anyone provide a good source and link? Woe replied: "Sure, here are a few sites I found.
Bepresent has a nice assortment of tops and bottoms, just check the navigation bar to the side and you'll see them.
This site only has a pair of pants for men. That's right. Just one pair of pants.
Another good one, shirts, bottoms, tanks, and outerwear.
I hope these help!
-Just wanted to show you this because it's funny-
I like how 'clothing for men' consists of some fakey coin necklaces and a shirt with an elephant on it."
yoginigirls replied: "For really high quality yoga clothing that's male-friendly, you should try Prana and Lululemon. Plus, they're both environmentally friendly. Prana works with a lot of organic cotton and Lululemon integrates silver and seaweed for really high-tech gear."
Alyrc replied: "I'm a big prAna fan. I use their Mantra Yoga short (a snug rather than loose style)
Try 72K ( ) Have never tried their stuff , but they're the only company I'm aware of that does only men's, no women's, yoga wear.

Love2TeachU replied: "I agree with the other answerers :)
be present is great - and they have a wide variety!
prana also, is a favorite, with a large mens selection
Yoga Tribe and Culture is fun - mostly tops
also look at:
I love Yoga - - they have a variety of tops and bottoms from many different companies.
Lastly, I'd look at the Y Catalog - they too, are a great blend of different companies for yoga accessories and attire." What is the correct standing posture for yoga/meditation? I am trying to get my standing posture correct for yogs/meditation. How do you stand to get the proud holding of lifting your adbomen over your pelvis? Do I tuck my butt in and pell my navel to my spine? Or, is it more analogous to how a pregnant woman walks with her belly first or to how a model stands? Also , when sitting cross-legged, do I sit up straight and relax or sit up straight and rigid? customdreammachines replied: "the correct standing position for yoga is sitting."
Alex B replied: "I've never heard of a standing posture for meditation. This is because the feet are not stable enough to sustain the meditation posture for prolonged periods of time. Meditation is best done sitting or lying down." Where can I take a yoga/meditation retreat in Southern California? I live in Los Angeles and want to take a 3 or 4 day yoga/meditation retreat within 3-4 hours drive. Silence, yoga, meditation and vegetarian meals, and a bed...anyone know a place? meatball7 replied: "Esalen is located in Bir Sur near Carmel and Monteray. They do offer such retreats as well as personal retreat options. ..... Esalen is an excellent place:"

JD Bell replied: "There are many stress relief techniques available both online and off. One of the most popular approaches people take to managing their stress is to learn about the benefits of self-relaxation programs. These programs generally take the form of self-hypnosis related training and are very simple to use. In addition, there are free hypnosis online resources that you can utilize to get introduced to the power of self-relaxation and behavior modification through suggestion.

Guided meditation demonstration video, meditation music, and books about Falun Gong are free to download from the URL listed below. If you need any help, contact a local practitioner in your area for free instructions. Good luck and hope to see you soon.
Falun Gong is a unique Buddhist School, found in 1992 by Master Li Hongzhi in China. About 100 million people practice in over 80 countries worldwide. Falun Gong is an ancient practice for the body and mind based upon the universal principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. Falun Gong consists of five sets of powerful exercises.
Falun Gong, Tibetans, other Buddhists, and Christians have been persecuted in China. The most offensive human right violation is the organ harvesting from the Falun Gong practitioners in China."

Eric_Putkonen replied: "Do not focus on anything.
To focus is called concentration...not meditation.

Rayna D replied: "You could do a mindfulness meditation, which involves just being aware of exactly what and how you are feeling. So start by just relaxing and breathing, then begin being aware of any feelings that arise in your body. The main point of this is to be observant and to NOT be judgmental. Also, be aware of thoughts/emotions/feelings that arise, but again, don't judge them or get caught up in them, just observe them. It's really about being aware of where you are and what you are feeling in the present moment.
Another way to meditate is by focusing on the breath. There are a number of ways to do this. One is by following your breath in your mind and feeling the different sensations of breath. On the inhale, feel the air being pulled in, the lungs filling with air and the stomach rising. On the exhale, feel the stomach falling, the lungs relaxing and emptying the breath, and the breath moving back out into the world. Try to enjoy the breath.
Another way to focus on breath is to imagine your breath to be a color (could be one color, or a different color for the inhale and exhale) and visualize it that way.
Another way is to count the breath. For example, as you inhale, count 1-2-3-4-5, then do the same on the exhale. Then count 2-2-3-4-5, then 3-2-3-4-5, etc, all the way up to 10, then count back down.
There's also a meditation called Loving Kindness that's very good. You can find instructions for it here:
Keep in mind there are many ways to meditate, try some different ways and find out what works for you! Hope this helps! :)" does anyone need a yoga meditation instructer in redmond washington? Thanks chaker s replied: "If you are successful in concentrating your thoughts away from other distractions you will experience a very liberating feeling that helps you to clear your mind of clutter and have an easing of tension, that will be followed by a sense of relaxation and calm, second only to being fully sleep. So, meditation will let you sleep in no time.
